Three army men were injured after suspected militants triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.
A police official said that the militants triggered the blast around 7:50 am in Turkwangam village of the district as a Casper vehicle of army’s 44 RR passed through the area.
“Three soldiers have suffered injuries in the blast,” he said, adding they were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Soon after the blast, additional forces were rushed to the area. However, youth took to streets and clashed with them. Further details are awaited.
Internet and train services were suspended in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district following the killing of a civilian in Kakapora area late Sunday night.
The cellular companies snapped the Internet late Sunday night after a directive from the police. “The service was immediately suspended as a precautionary measure following the death of a civilian,” said an official.
Train service between Banihal and Srinagar was also suspended. However, trains continued to play between Srinagar and Baramulla.
“In view of law and order problem in south Kashmir, especially in Pulwama district today, as a precautionary measure the Banihal to Srinagar rail service and vice versa will remain suspended today (Monday). However rail service from Srinagar to Baramulla and vice versa will ply as per schedule,” said a railway official.
A police official said that militants fired upon army’s 50 Rashtriya Rifles camp at Kakapora around 10:15 pm last night. “The militants first lobbed a grenade and later fired towards the camp. Soldiers retaliated the fire triggering a brief gun battle in which a civilian and a soldier were injured,” he said.
The injured were rushed to the hospital where a civilian identified as Bilal Ahmad Ganie- sumo driver by profession–son of Muhammad Ramzan Ganie of Narwa Pulwama and a soldier succumbed to their injuries.
